INSOMNIA CENTRAL
Quality Sleep... my long lost friend. I hope to find it again!! I have an appointment with a psychologist that specialises in sleep on thurday. The nerves and anxiety levels are up there already as I dont know what to expect or if he will deem me suitable for his research study. He will assess my issue and then let me know if I am suitable and then I guess i'll learn more about the expectations and my responsibilities before I decide. The realm of the unknown isnt a friendly place!!
I have taken up research on Insomnia again recently and found some interesting changes in attitudes, and a lot more information since I last researched this about 8 years ago. So many conflicting theories about diagnoisis, research, treatment (behavioural and psychological vs. good old drugs and what drugs should or shouldn't be used.) Many doctors now seem to be of the opinion that prescribing drugs to chronic insomnia sufferers isnt the answer and the approach should be more of a behavioural/psychological approach. I completely agree with this argument however I dont yet know if I suffer from chronic insomnia or if its just not as bad as I think it is. Guess we will find out on Thursday. Not interested in medicating the issue again as a dependency can develop if you simply get sleeping pills and sedatives chucked down your throat. Im pretty sure I used to feel worse during the day after taking sleeping pills than I do now!!
Will let you all know what happens next! If anyone knows of any resources (websites etc) that discuss/present insomnia cases, causes, viewpoints and treatments I'd love to hear from you! Please!!!
